NSK Dental has introduced to the U.S. market the Ti-Max Z45L, a 45° electric, contra-angle dental handpiece.
The handpiece's body is made of titanium, which is 30% lighter than stainless steel, more durable, and corrosion-resistant, the company noted in a press release.
The handpiece can handle burs ranging in length from 20 mm to 25 mm and features ceramic bearings. The handpiece fits to all e-type electric micromotors and uses a standard e-type connection.
The handpiece also offers two-way spray function: The water jet spray option prevents subcutaneous emphysema, while the mist spray option cools the bur during cutting. This feature makes the handpiece suitable for a wide range of procedures, such as third-molar preparation and clarifications of the root canal orifice, according to NSK. The spray mode is changed via a small switch on the base of the handpiece using a small flat-head screwdriver that is included.
The handpiece also incorporates NSK's Clean Head System, which automatically prevents the entry of oral fluids and other contaminants into the handpiece head, prolongs the life of the bearings; and Duracoat, NSK's surface enhancement technology, which uses titanium to improve durability while creating a smooth, scratch-resistant surface.
