If you want a job as a superintendent, inspector, or assistant cadre with the Nigerian Immigration Service, you better not have any disabilities or physical flaws, such as crooked teeth, according to news reports.
The Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, which is Nigeria's government arm in charge of its paramilitary services, released on March 13 a brochure that stated any person who has any speech or physical disabilities, like a stammer or partial blindness, or "gross malformation of teeth," was prohibited from applying for jobs with its immigration unit, according to the report.
Officials did not provide any reasons why people with less-than-perfect teeth or strabismus, or crossed eyes, would not be good candidates.
Those who are obese, pregnant, or have physical disabilities, like an amputation or flat feet, are barred from applying to due to the rigorous exercise routine involved in the immigration recruitment process.
Also, there is a height requirement for applicants. Men must be at least 1.65 m (5 ft, 4 inches) tall, and females must be 1.60 m (5 ft, 2 inches) tall.
Lastly, anyone applying for a superintendent position must have a medical degree, and those applying for deputy superintendent positions must have pharmacy degrees.
