Hygienists make studying for board exams fun

Two Nevada dental hygienists have developed a board game designed to help dental hygiene students prepare for their board exams, according to a story in the Lahontan Valley News.

The Pass It game includes more than 1,000 dental hygiene to help dental hygiene students prepare for the board exams "without the boredom, fatigue, or information overload usually associated with the intense exam studying," Karen Isbister and Carrie Clotworthy told the Valley News.

"During our last semester of dental hygiene school, we were enrolled in a board review class designed to help prepare us for the National Board Exam," Isbister and Clotworthy explain on their website. "Our final project for the class was to break into small groups and choose a subject to 'reteach' our classmates. By this time we were fed up with PowerPoint presentations and lectures, so we decided to spice things up a bit and make a board game!"

They spent three years trademarking, copyrighting, and perfecting the game, working with a company called Board Game Design and with former instructors at the College of Southern Nevada. The game has also been reviewed by the directors of dental hygiene schools across the U.S.

Isbister and Clotworthy will be displaying and selling the games at dental hygiene conferences, according to the Valley News. The game sells for $119.
