New ADHA president takes office

Caryn Loftis-Solie, R.D.H., was inaugurated as the 2010-2011 president of the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) last month at the association's annual meeting in Las Vegas.

Solie has served in numerous positions within ADHA, including vice president, delegate, district XII trustee, and member of the Councils on Education, Public Health, and Policy and Bylaws. Most recently, she served as president-elect. She has served as president for the Nevada Dental Hygienists' Association, a constituent of ADHA, and president of her local component.

"Having the honor to serve as president of the American Dental Hygienists' Association for the coming year should be both challenging and rewarding," Solie said in a press release. "With the changing landscape of oral healthcare in America, coupled with recent healthcare reform, there has never been a better opportunity for dental hygienists to utilize their education and training to their fullest potential in providing care to the public."

Solie earned her associate of science degree in dental hygiene from North Dakota State College of Science and has practiced clinical dental hygiene for 38 years. She has been an instructor of dental hygiene at Truckee Meadows Community College and currently provides dental hygiene services at Spanish Springs Family Dental. Solie is also employed as a consultant for Water Pik.

Solie succeeds Lynn Ramer, L.D.H., as president. Ramer remains an ADHA officer as immediate past president, as well as the 2010-2011 chair of the ADHA Institute for Oral Health.

Additional ADHA officers installed at the annual session include Pamela Quinones, R.D.H., B.S., president-elect; Susan Savage, R.D.H., B.S.D.H., vice president; and Carol Jo Inman, R.D.H., B.S., speaker of the house. Remaining in her position as treasurer is Hope Garza, R.D.H., B.S.
