The Children's Dental Health Project (CDHP) is offering training to state stakeholders for navigators who can provide information to consumers about dental coverage that will be included in the state insurance exchanges set up under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Many Americans will soon purchase health coverage for the first time by "shopping" state insurance exchanges set up under the ACA, the CDHP noted in a press release. ACA patient navigators and in-person assisters will help consumers understand their coverage options and whether they qualify for subsidies such as premium tax credits.
Each state marketplace is different, and the law's treatment of dental coverage is complex. The CDHP can assist state stakeholders in training navigators so they provide accurate information and impartial guidance.
In Connecticut, the CDHP is helping state officials develop dental training modules and quick-reference materials for the state's insurance exchange navigators and in-person assisters. Access Health CT, one of 17 state-run marketplaces, asked the CDHP to design and conduct a train-the-trainers workshop for their navigator training staff.
The technical assistance package includes the following:
- Information needs assessment
- Training that includes customized reference materials, handouts, and navigator training modules
- An onsite train-the-trainer workshop conducted by CDHP staff (for those training navigators)
- Technical assistance following the training
- Training impact follow-up and report after the open enrollment period closes, including recommendations for refinement, changes, and improvements
