Cigna has launched a co-insurance dental health maintenance organization (DHMO) plan.
Employers can choose from 22 options that offer coverage for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) diagnosis and treatment procedures, athletic mouthguards, the ability to upgrade to CAD/CAM same-day in-office crowns, and other prevention-focused enhancements, the company noted in a press release. Some plans cover nearly 400 procedures, including surgical implants, sinus augmentation, and bone grafts.
The plan allows customers to compare out-of-pocket costs for a DHMO plan versus a dental preferred provider organization (DPPO) plan at the point of enrollment to determine the best value.
Similar to dental preferred provider organization (PPO), co-insurance DHMO plans are also based on actual discounted dentist fees, the company said.
Cigna claims the largest DHMO network in the U.S.; the co-insurance plans are available in 37 states.
