A student at Boston University's Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine won a $500 seed grant to develop a compact, touchless device that dispenses dental supplies like gauze and rolls.
Alireza Eghdamian, who graduates in 2026, developed Denta-Dispense in the hopes of reducing medical waste. This device would mean dentists would no longer need to prestock examination rooms.
Eghdamian came up with the design while working one summer as a dental assistant. He saw that any leftover items in exam rooms were thrown away to ensure sterility.
Eghdamian was one of a dozen students and alumni who received 2023 Sustainability Innovation seed grants from Boston University Sustainability and Innovate@BU to help kick-start projects that address challenges to sustainability.
