A mobile app developed by researchers at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry improved caregivers' attitudes, knowledge, and abilities to provide oral hygiene care to those with dementia.
To test the effectiveness of the Dental.Aging.Tips app in instructing caregivers how to provide quality oral hygiene care, researchers conducted a study, which was sponsored by Delta Dental Institute. Participants completed pretests, watched app demonstrations, used the app for two weeks, and completed post tests, with surveys comprising structured and open-ended questions, according to the study.
In addition to seeing significant improvements in their oral hygiene knowledge, the caregivers reported experiencing increased confidence in their caregiving roles.
