Dental hygiene students and faculty members from Dugoni joined members of the San Francisco Dental Hygiene Society (SFDHS), a component of the California Dental Hygienists' Association, on the plaza. Michael Long, a part-time faculty member in the school's Dental Hygiene program, requested the light display from San Francisco City Hall.

Dental hygiene students have also been active in other activities in recent months. Students from the class of 2023 served San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood in September by assisting in dental screenings and fluoride treatments for children.

Dental Hygiene students joined SFDHS volunteers at the California Dental Association's CDA Presents conference in September to discuss the profession and network with other hygienists and students.
