The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation issued a statement on February 20 warning of a new telephone scam in which callers request money and information on behalf of the Illinois Board of Dentistry.
Illinois officials advise consumers to hang up immediately upon receipt of a scam call from a telephone number similar to that of the dental board. They also recommended never giving personal identifying information on calls not initiated by the consumer and being wary of callers intimidating consumers to make quick decisions.
