The exhibition hall at the recent California Dental Association's CDA Presents 2017 meeting in San Francisco was split onto two floors, but that did not prevent the 20,000 attendees from seeing innovative, new products and systems. As part of our continuing coverage, DrBicuspid.com gives you a look at some of the new products from the exhibit floors.

Education and training

Komet debuts virtual reality training system

Komet USA introduced its virtual reality training game to the U.S.

The Virtual Dentality game asks players to finish three procedures (scaling, crown prep, and a root canal) in three minutes. Players wear virtual reality glasses and use a controller to complete the procedures, while observers can watch on a nearby screen.

The game was initially introduced at the 2017 International Dental Show (IDS) in March in Cologne, Germany.

Planmeca introduces new intraoral scanner

Dental equipment manufacturer Planmeca introduced a new intraoral scanner.

The Emerald Nex-Gen intraoral scanner is lightweight and ergonomically designed to make intraoral imaging comfortable for the dentist and the patient, according to the company.

The scanner uses a multicolor, laser-based system that produces images that help distinguish between hard and soft tissues. The device has an antifog feature in the tip mirror and an autoclavable tip to assist with infection-control efforts.

The scanner's software is built on an open-system platform for collaboration with labs and other systems.

The scanner was first presented at IDS 2017. The company estimates deliveries will begin later in 2017.

Carestream Dental launches airway imaging module

Carestream Dental has launched a new airway imaging module for the company's CS 3D imaging software.

The CS Airway module gives doctors a color-coded, 3D view of the pharyngeal region to help them visualize constrictions in airway passages. These 3D renderings allow doctors to easily communicate with patients by showing images from before and after treatment, according to the company.

The module is compatible with the company's CS 9300 and CS 9300 Select systems.
