Sirona Dental Systems is crediting a strong showing at the International Dental Show (IDS) and an improved U.S. economy for a 17% increase in revenues in the third quarter of 2013.
For the quarter (end-June 30), the company reported revenues of $283.2 million, an increase of $41.2 million compared with revenues in the same quarter a year ago. Revenues in the U.S. increased 28.8%, and revenues outside the U.S. increased 11.8%.
U.S. revenues benefited from strong demand for Sirona's imaging and CAD/CAM products, the delivery of Omnicam trade-ups, and the expanded agreement with Patterson, the company noted in a press release. Sales growth in international markets was driven by a strong performance in Germany, where Sirona benefited from orders following the IDS.
Net income for third quarter of 2013 was $40.6 million, compared with $30.3 million for the third quarter of 2012.
In related news, Sirona announced that Ulrich Michel has been appointed chief financial officer and executive vice president, effective October 14, 2013. Michel will take over for Simone Blank, who is stepping down after 15 years with the company to pursue another opportunity, according to Sirona.
