A Web-based dental picture and archiving communications system (PACS) and image management system provided by Infinitt UK to Leeds Dental Institute (LDI) is expected to go live this month.
The installation, which took place in February, will allow digital dental images to be acquired and viewed at the institute's 150 dental chairs, from consultants' offices, and other parts of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals National Health Service Trust, the company noted in a press release.
The contract to deliver PACS is a key component in LDI's electronic patient record program, which will underpin primary, secondary, and tertiary care for patients of the trust and support education and training for dental students and professionals. LDI selected the program because the Web-based image management system enables health professionals to acquire, transmit, display, store, and share digital dental images and reports. The PACS will also integrate seamlessly with the intraoral x-ray devices using Infinitt's DentiGate acquisition software, as well as with a wide range of other dental imaging equipment, including cone-beam CT.
Infinitt will integrate the PACS to enable LDI staff to use Leeds Teaching Hospital's existing system for reporting of dental exams.
Under the terms of the deal, Infinitt will also supply Xelis Dental -- the specialist dentistry module of Infinitt's Xelis 3D and advanced image processing. It allows analysis of cone-beam CT images and enables dental surgeons to do on-screen planning for dental implant procedures.
The installation includes all software, server hardware, and reporting and acquisition workstations at both the main Leeds Dental Institute site and Seacroft Hospital in East Leeds.
