A Virginia dentist has been sentenced for an illegal opioid prescription writing scheme, according to a news report posted on October 2 by 13News Now in Norfolk.

Gary Hartman, DDS, of Virginia Beach was sentenced to nearly eight and a half years in prison for conspiracy to distribute prescription opioids and muscle relaxant pills without a legitimate medical purpose. Dr. Hartman's actions involved 766 prescriptions written for nonmedical reasons and almost 40,000 oxycodone pills, according to 13News Now.
