The median income of dentists rose nearly 3% from 2016 to 2017, according to a new data analysis by personal finance website Finder. However, the increase in dentist income varied greatly by practice setting.

Finder's analysis included the median annual earnings for full-time dentists as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On average, dentists' median earnings increased 2.74% from 2016 to 2017; however, the percentage varied widely based on the location where dentists practiced.

Dentists working in specialty hospitals experienced a median income boost of 5%, the highest increase among places of employment. However, dentists working in dental offices and state governments only saw an increase of 0.09%.
