U.S. to impose additional tariffs on China imports

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has announced additional tariffs on imports from China. The taxes will begin on August 23, according to published reports.

These tariffs are in addition to already imposed 25% tariffs on more than 800 products and materials imported from China that began in July. The products include at least eight dental and dental industry-related products and materials:

  • Ultrasonic scanning electrodiagnostic apparatus
  • MRI electrodiagnostic apparatus
  • Scintigraphic electrodiagnostic apparatus
  • Ultraviolet or infrared ray apparatus
  • Optical instruments and appliances
  • Anesthetic instruments and appliances
  • Apparatus based on the use of x-rays for dental uses (other than CT apparatus)
  • Apparatus based on the use of alpha, beta, or gamma radiations

The government of China announced on August 3 that it would impose tariffs on $60 billion worth of U.S. products, including several dental products, if the U.S. government imposed additional tariffs.
